Mindfulness

We believe in mindfulness. We can learn to our potential when we are focused. We can pause, think and choose our actions.

We begin every morning at school with a mindful moment and practice being present throughout the school day. Some of our favorite strategies are included on this site to help you on your journey.

Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are phrases that you repeat to yourself. They describe a specific outcome or who you want to be. Positive affirmations, or mantras, can change your life for the good. With repetition, your subconscious mind will start to believe your affirmations and eventually, they will become your reality. They can be invaluable when you are under stress or in a difficult social situation. Not only have these self-affirmations been shown to minimize anxiety and stress but also they motivate the people around you. Being around positive people will transform you and your energy. At Norfeldt School we practice positive affirmations on a regular basis and this is the routine that we choose to use (do what works for you!).

Sit up straight and comfortable in your chair. Feel your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands in your lap or on your desk. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable. Take a deep breath in. Hold. Exhale slowly. 

Repeat after me. (Insert 3 different positive affirmations here, repeating each affirmation twice. See some of our favorites below.)

Take a deep breath in. Hold. Exhale slowly. Notice how you feel. Slowly open your eyes.

Examples of positive affirmations:

  • My challenges help me grow.
  • I believe in myself.
  • I will be my best self today.
  • I am grateful for the good in my life.
  • I am brave and stand up for myself.
  • I am awesome.
  • I learn from my mistakes.
  • I have the qualities needed to be successful.
  • I am patient and kind.
  • Today is going to be a great day.
